For many of us who have turned up at Champion Hill at some point in the last half a decade, the affinity with Dulwich Hamlet was immediate. For all the half-baked takes from confused comment writers, nonplussed by the groundswell of support for a scruffy club from south London wedged between a car wash and a Sainsbury’s superstore, Hamlet were still unique and brilliant.

For all the straight-faced cliches about hipsters, craft ale and half-time falafel wraps, the atmosphere there was something joyous and genuine, something to be cherished.
